In Service Learning (SL), there were three stages that need to be completed for every groups before the stage 4 which is reflection. For stage 1 which is investigation, our group discussed together for the suitable topic that we will do for SL. Although our fist topic was not accepted because it was similar to other group, we ended up chose the topic of Mediation: Landlord and Tenant Dispute. During this stage, I was tasked to do the report of analysis and finding for our survey. This report was included in our e-portfolio which is in the form of website. Next, I was assigned to do the promo video for stage 2 which is preparation. It is a short video to inform about the landlord and tenant dispute and was also included in the website. Lastly, I was tasked to design the poster of the event for stage 3 as we decided to record our event and shared it in social media of our group. For the feedback of the event, all of the members did the report together to put in our e-portfolio.
When I heard about SL, I was very worried and nervous to do it. This is because it was not easy to organise an event as it will include technical and speakers which are the professional in the law field. However, there are members of this group who are experienced in organising an event which brought me great reassurance. Although the process of inviting the speaker went smoothly, our group members faced difficulty before the day of the event as the platform that we chose which is Microsoft Teams cannot operated on several group members. Nevertheless, we managed to solve it by only the members that can operate the Microsoft Teams handle the event. Other members that not involve in handling the event also need to be prepare for emergency. This made me felt that cooperation with every members is really important for every group work.
All in all, I learned and experienced many things during this SL such as I gained more knowledge on ADR and the mediation between landlord and tenant dispute. I also managed to do things that I have never done before and made me realise on things that I need to improve on. In the future, I can applied the things I learned through this SL in my career and also in my daily life.
First and foremost, the difficulties faced during SL is the process of editing the website for our portfolio. As Wix do not allow simultaneous editing, it took a long time for our members to edit their part on the website. We need to take turn in order to not mistakenly deleted the changes that other members had made. Moreover, it was hard to get the amount of respondent that we targeted for both our survey and feedback. Although each members had spread it to various channels, it took a long time for us to reach the target. This had caused for the report of both the survey and the feedback being done late than we expected. Even though the report was done late, we managed to finish it before the due date. I also realise that I need to improve my skills on designing a poster and editing video. As I rarely did both of these, it took a long time for me to do it. Through this SL, it brings me many benefits as I did things I never did before and I can applied the things I learn through this SL in the future.
