DESCRIPTION
For stage 1, we were asked to investigate by way of survey, interview, or small research. This is the initial stage for this learning where we must find the relation between the topic chosen with the survey given by the respondents. I was anxious and worried when conducting this stage as some of the respondents may not understand the topic. Almost 30 respondents gave their response and almost half of the number didn’t realized the landlord and tenant dispute can be solved by way of alternative dispute resolution.
Upon receiving the response, we proceed with Stage 2 where we started by planning and determining the event, speaker and the date of the event. I volunteered in creating our Facebook Page with another group member, Ajmal Najma binti Bandah. I always loved this kind of engaging as Facebook was proven to be effective in promoting event such as webinar talk. I felt delighted that our group did not had any issues in preparing Stage 2 and we worked so well. I believe a proper planning was the reason why our group can follow the timeline proposed by Dr. ‘Ain.
After deciding the date and the speaker of the event, on 18th December 2021, our group conducted an event via Zoom and it was a recorded sharing session with the speaker, Mr. Gurbinder Singh Gill. The event shows that we’ve reached the stage 3. The video was posted on our Facebook Page and YouTube channel. I was proud that the number of view exceeds our target which almost 51 views.
During the event, I volunteered to be the moderator together with my friend, Ajmal Najma binti Bandah. It was our first time became moderators and we did few times rehearsal to avoid mistakes during the event. I was thrilled and excited but at the same time, I was worried and afraid I might did some mistakes during the sharing session. Nevertheless, we did a good job in moderating the event and we received positive comments from the speaker himself. The recorded video was approximately around 43 minutes.
The last stage is the Stage 5 where we will be finalizing our portfolios in wixsite and our group will conduct one last time discussion to brainstorm how should we present our journey throughout this learning in 5 minutes. I am grateful to be with my group members as there were no issues arose throughout the process of E-SULAM.
FEELINGS
Throughout the process of this service learning, I can say that I learnt a lot not only in the way academically but also as a whole such as my morality as an individual. I gained knowledge throughout this learning especially in Alternative Dispute Resolution and how it can solve dispute between parties without the need to go to the Court.
Although at the beginning, our group encountered a problem in choosing the suitable topic to be shared to the public however, after consulting with Dr. ‘Ain, our group managed to overcome the problem. Plus, we were also worried with the participation since our group decided to share the session through a live session. We were afraid that not many will watch the recorded session. Nevertheless, we satisfied with the number of views and we thank to the lecturers and learned friends for their utmost support.
Not only that, I must say that I am also feeling overwhelmed when catching the due dates for each of the tasks given. Unlike other assignments, this E-Service Learning had different stages and we must comply to the dates given. However, I am thankful for kind consideration given by lecturer to extend the tasks for Stage 3 until Stage 5 due to the flood occured suffered by our friends.
To sum up, there are also several thoughts passing in my mind during the preparation of our assignment. This includes the availability for everyone to attend the meeting due to the poor internet coverage, time constraint during our meeting with the clients and the overlapping submissions with other assignments. However, we managed to overcome these problems by initiating a proper timeframe for each and every tasks in the assignment. Nevertheless, I am glad to be in a group where everyone can give their best and cooperation and also a thoughtful lecturer. Most importantly, I can now relate the advantages of Alternative Dispute Resolution and how it can solve the dispute between landlord and tenant and many more disputes available out there.
EVALUATION & ANALYSIS
First of all, my strength that I discovered throughout this learning is in the aspect of leadership skills. From the first stage until the current stage, I initiated the discussion among the group and we divide our own tasks equally and fair. I play an active role in our group so that our group did not left out any important announcement from the lecturer. I also felt the responsibility to check on our portfolio page to avoid any mistakes before the submissions. Thus, I believe my leadership skills that I developed is a good contribution to the group.
Secondly, I can see my strength as a flexible person. I am able to adapt with new members and any changes i.e. the new due dates. Plus, I am a result-oriented person. I discovered this side of me when I actively prepare a document for them to fil in their comments and suggestions in each stage especially during the preparation and event planning to avoid misunderstanding and miscommunication between the members. I always push things to the limit and I will try my best to make things happen as what I wanted it to be. This is because results and outcome are important to me and I wanted the best for my group.
Thirdly, I would say my courage and braveness as my strengths I discovered throughout this learning. Especially in stage 3 where we were given the task to conduct an event and my group chose a recorded sharing session. Despite recorded session, I believe it is important for me to give my best to smoothen the process of our event. I volunteered myself to be the moderator for our group together with another group member, Ajmal Najma binti Bandah. I plucked up my courage though I am frightened and worried of not being good to be a moderator for our group. However, I managed to be a moderator for the first time and I started to believe that I am actually capable to do things that are outside from my comfort zone.
As usual, when there are strengths, there will be also weaknesses that I discovered to humble me for a betterment in the future. I can see how poor my time management was when I could not finished the other assignments without finishing this assignment. I often mixed my works and got confused with the instructions. Therefore, I am planning to do a To-Do List in order to finish my works according to the timeline for each assignments.
My other weakness that I have discovered throughout this service learning is that my social networking and my communication skills with the outsiders. I found out this as my weakness when in stage 2 and stage 3, I tried to invite the suitable speakers however I can see my communication skills with the mediators are quite poor as I could not explained fully what was the purpose of this learning to the extend that they can fully understand. Therefore, I decided to do more reading and join other activities and engaging activities with the outsiders.
ACTION PLAN
To conclude, I acknowledge that I leant a lot throughout our preparation for each stages in this E-Service Learning. I indeed had a good time in completing each tasks. I believe there are still room for improvement to become a better person.
Thus, my action plan is that I need to o learn to prioritize the tasks given first and learn to apply a good time management in order to achieve my end goal which is to be the best version of myself in the future.
