Upon receiving this E-Service Learning as our task, the first step that I have taken is to choose the group members to accomplish this assignment. We are free to choose our owngroup members and my group members are Erina, Deanna, Najmal, Fatihah and Nurin. Dr. Ain husna guided our class to this task. We then choose website as a platform for us to conduct this Service Learning as it is one of the options available. Stage 1 begin with an investigation stage where my group mates choose to collect data and information from the public through a google form questionnaires. Our group decided to divide the task accordingly and my partner, Erina and I drafted the questionnaires for data collection The topic we chose for the data collection is the Mediation: Landlord and Tenant Disputes. Before we prepared the questionnaire, we studied this topic and brainstorm to make a simple question that could be easier and understandable by the public. As approved by Dr. Ain Husna, stage 1 completed as we distributed the questionnaires to the public and analyse the responses given by 41 people. A report was make on this survey based on the responses and we have make a proposal to Dr. Ain Husna on the program that we would like to do for the stage 2. We decided to make a coffee talk session between the speaker and our group members only as we consider few circumstances ahead. We agreed to make a coffee talk session with the speaker and record it to be shared with the viewers on our platform for public awareness. We then proceed to find a credible speaker for our coffee talk through Linkedin and found few credible speakers for this talk. We opt to invite our credible speaker who is a mediator, Mr. Gurbinder Singh Ghill. The medium for discussing this talk with our speaker were conducted through email and as soon as he agreed to join us, an official letter from UUM has been sent to him. The coffee talk session was held for 45 minutes with our respective speaker. The recorded video was posted on Youtube and shared it to the public. We were glad that this talk enlightens the public on this topic and amazing feedbacks were received.
In accomplishing this service-learning assignment, I found out few of my weaknesses and strengths. As for my weaknesses, I found that I tend to procrastinate a little bit. However, the timeline given to accomplish this assignment has encouraged me to keep up with the due date and accomplish it in the timeline given. I managed to overcome my weakness and I am very glad about my progress. Also, I am not a perfectionist thus I am not confident with my works. I have to ask my partner that did the same task as divided in team whether I am doing it right and, on the track, or not. As time pass by, I learn to overcome it slowly as I want my work to be good as the others. Next, for my strength, I am able to work in team as I could hear and give opinions to the others. I believe a good team works in indeed the most needed thing to accomplish this assignment. If there is unwillingness to cooperate with teamwork, it would be very difficult as working in team in not only during university days but I believe it will be applied to in working surrounding later on. Last but not least, I believed that I could deliver my works well. In conclusion this assignment helped me to grow my soft skills as well as my hard skills.
I am very excited when receive this assignment as I never received a task like this. I found that this task requires us to be creative in studying and also give benefits to other form what we have learnt. In order to deliver the best from our groups, we have brainstormed together and studied a lot to ensure that the knowledge we spread to the public are the right one and benefits the others. We studied the options of alternative dispute resolutions with depth and found that there are quite a lot of issues arose in the public on Landlord and Tenant disputes especially during this Covid-19 pandemic where most of the parties to landlord and tenants are badly affected. Throughout the events, I am shocked that there are a lot of people did not know the function of mediation and most of them also did not know that the tenancy disputes could be settled up through a mediation. Thus, I am very happy during accomplishing this assignment as I believed that this is a great way to deliver the information that we have studied. It is a new way for us to study and gain as much as information as we have to share it to the public. This service learning encouraged us to communicate and help the community to enlighten them about this topic. As a law student, we have to be able to communicate well with others and improve our soft skills like this. Also, by doing this, I found it exciting as we keep on expanding our networking by approaching new people as well as the professional people. During the selection of topic and issues, we choose it carefully as we would like to deliver the best information that could help other people. Next, during approaching our speaker, I am quite nervous as I am not good in communicating, however, I am very glad that the speaker would like to join us. Also, the best part in accomplishing this assignment is that my group members are the best team as we worked together to ensure the outcome will be the best.
All in all, I learnt a lot in accomplishing this assignment though it is a new for us to learn and engaging with the community. I learn lot n working as a team, drafting, engaging with the public, critical thinking and creativity. Although I am very satisfied with our outcome, I hope we can do better in the future as this coffee talk only involves our group member and speaker. I hope that in other event, we will include the audiences as gain new skills and information in handling a bigger event. In a nutshell, I am very glad to have Dr. Ain Husna in guiding our group member to handle this event successfully.
